Copyright and takedown
In short
- If a script copies your work, send a copyright notice.
- The script can be hidden while it is reviewed, and its author is told why.
- An author who thinks it is a mistake can send a counter-notice.
- Repeated valid notices cost an author publishing and then Forge.
If someone copied your work
A copyright notice contains:
- the link to the script on Forge;
- the work you say was copied;
- your name, postal address and email, and a phone number if you want to give one;
- whether you act for the owner of the work;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not allowed;
- a statement that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or may act for them;
- your typed name as a signature.
Send a notice with the notice form.
What happens next
The notice goes to Oathra's moderation team. While it is reviewed, the script can be hidden or put under review. The author is told which rule applied, why, and how to answer.
If your script was taken down by mistake
The author can send a counter-notice. It contains:
- the author's name, postal address and email;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the script was removed by mistake;
- consent to the courts of the author's district;
- acceptance of service from the person who sent the notice;
- the author's typed name as a signature.
Oathra sends a copy to the person who sent the notice. Unless that person tells Oathra they have started a court action, the script is restored between 10 and 14 business days after the counter-notice arrives.
Authors answer from their items page.
A script that was removed under a legal rule has no source left and cannot be restored. Its author can appeal the decision instead.
Repeat infringers
Accounts with repeated valid notices lose publishing and then Forge, in steps. Strikes are explained on moderation and appeals.
False notices
A notice or a counter-notice that knowingly misstates facts can make its sender liable for damages.
Other problems
For anything that is not about copyright, use the Report button on the script.
