Bar close and fills
Forge separates deciding from filling. A strategy decides when a bar is confirmed. The order is filled at the first real price after that moment.
Two times on every bar
Every bar has a time it opened and a time it closed. For a time bar the close is the end of the period, even when the last price came earlier. For every other type the close is the time of the price that completed the bar. The decision happens at the close. The earliest fill is the next real price after it.
When each bar type is confirmed
| Bar type | A bar is confirmed when |
|---|---|
| Time | The period ends |
| Heikin-Ashi | The base bar closes. The drawn values are smoothed, and the real open, high, low and close are kept beside them |
| Renko | The brick completes |
| Range | The range is reached |
| Kagi | The line segment completes |
| Point and figure | The column completes, or each box when the series is set to boxes |
| Line break | The line completes |
| Tick | The set number of price updates has arrived |
| Count | The set number of base bars has merged |
Drawn prices are never fill prices
Heikin-Ashi, Renko, Kagi, point and figure and line break bars are drawn with values that do not exist in the market. They are marked as synthetic. A strategy may decide on them, but a fill is always on the real price stream, at a price and a time that occurred.
The forming bar
A bar that has not completed never reaches a strategy. Indicators may draw it on a chart, styled as unconfirmed. Heikin-Ashi also has a settling window at the start of a series, where signals are suppressed.
Several bars from one price
One price jump can complete several bars at once. They share a close time and are marked as such.
